DUMB Goals: Connecting Aspirations to Behaviors
DUMB goals trade perfection for purposeful progress.

Where SMART goals demand discipline, DUMB goals spark motivation.
SMART goals are meant to be Specific, Measurable, Assignable, Realistic, Time-bound. I have used them successfully at work, but one drawback is that they tend to lead to incremental improvements.
DUMB goals are a better option when you are trying to achieve a transformational outcome. The magic of DUMB goals lies in their ability to connect your aspirations to daily behaviors without the weight of perfectionism.
Dream-driven: Tap into your deepest desires with bold, exciting aspirations.
Uplifting: Frame goals around what you’ll, not what you’re giving up.
Method-friendly: Align the process with your life and habits to remove friction.
Behavior-oriented: Build habits that are actionable and sustainable.
Here’s an example…
A SMART goal might say, “Write one essay every week for a year.” It’s measurable but mechanical. A DUMB goal would say, “Write with intention every day, and each week, publish one thing that sparks curiosity and connection.” One tracks output; the other fuels purpose.
When you tie your goals to what truly matters to you, they become part of your identity.
Stop chasing checkboxes. Start building a life you love.
